MAYURI PATEL, PHD
ACTRESS | BIOTECH CONSULTANT | SCIENTIST
My work sits at the intersection of science, performance, and communication.
My path into this work hasn’t been linear, but over time it’s become clear how these different parts of my background fit together.
I completed my PhD at Baylor College of Medicine, where I studied the mouse prefrontal cortex and how sensory information influences behavior. During that time, I also returned to a long-standing interest in performance and became involved in the Houston theatre community, performing in over 25 full-length productions.
Alongside my research, I found myself increasingly interested in how scientific work is communicated beyond the lab. Not just the content itself, but how it’s structured, presented, and understood by different audiences. That interest led me into biotech consulting, where I spent a year working at L.E.K. in Chicago, gaining exposure to how companies position complex science for investors, partners, and broader audiences.
At the same time, I continued pursuing acting, signing with Pastorini-Bosby Talent and BMG, and working across theatre, film, and on-camera projects. Both paths ended up reinforcing each other in ways I didn’t initially expect.
What’s stayed consistent across all of this is an interest in taking something complex and making it understandable without losing what makes it meaningful. That applies just as much to scientific communication as it does to performance.
Today, my work reflects both sides of that. I collaborate with life science teams on voiceover and communication, while continuing to pursue acting across film, television, and theatre.
If you’re exploring ways to better communicate your work, or are interested in collaborating creatively, I’d be glad to connect.
